Our First Basic Life Saving Support (BLS) Class Was A Success!

Basic Life Support Classes

Our first BLS class was a success! Several participants received their certifications, and of course their free hug from Nurse Jackie. We received some great feedback from the class. Everyone seemed to enjoy the class, some said it was informative, others enjoyed the hands on portion of the training.

Nurse Jackie also made the class fun, at times she tried to trick everyone to make sure we were paying attention. Nurse Jackie’s passion for teaching becomes apparent almost immediately, she loves helping others and she creates a positive environment.

One of the topics we extensively covered was Basics for Infants, which included hands on training using a barrier device and providing ventilation.

Nurse Jackie split the class into groups and has us position ourselves directly above the infant’s head, and we then placed the mask on the victims face using the bridge of the nose as a guide.

Next we used our thumbs and index fingers of one hand to make a “C” to press around the edges of the mask. lastly, we ensured the airway was open and then began delivering ventilation using the bag mask and barrier devices.

She also stressed the importance of not over extending the infant’s head. She constantly reminded us if you tilt or extend an infant’s head beyond the neutral position, the infants airway may become blocked.

Nurse Jackie lastly had us make sure to hold the mask against the face with our thumb and index fingers while using the remaining fingers of that hand to lift the jaw and open the airway..

My partner and I took the birthing class and enjoyed every minute of it

My partner and I took the birthing class and enjoyed every minute of it. Nurse Jackies experience and charisma created a fun and friendly but very informative environment that allowed us to feel comfortable to ask any questions we had. We are definitely feeling more confident and prepared for childbirth. Thanks Nurse Jackie and the NY Birthing Center.

Now i have my beautiful baby and I am very grateful to the specialists of the birthing center for their invaluable help!!!

Hello - My name is Ann, I'm from the Ukraine, I came to NY with no insurance (I'm a "self paid" person) In the Last 3 months by recommendations, I had experience to deal with Dr Lisa Eng (The Birthing Center of NY, 6702 3rd Ave) and took a "Childbirth & Breastfeeding" with nurse "God"-Jackie Chapman. Dr Eng was checking me (weight, blood pressure, baby condition) every week.

When time of birthing was coming (started contractions)->I went to the birthing center, where nurse Jackie told me what to do how to reach faster time of labor and helped me to release the pain through physical moves, walking, breathing and hugs. It's really helped me a lot, without it, I didn't even know how to handle that strong pain and though only anesthesia (but I heard this is has a bad effect to the child) or hands of good specialists.. I choose 2nd option and did not regret it!

The moment of labor was pretty much hard, but at the finish line you will forget fast that pain after you get the baby in  your arms. Dr Lisa helped me a lot during labor by telling me what to do every second and told me about my babies progress (that cheered me up and gave me strength).

Now i have my beautiful baby and I am very grateful to the specialists of the birthing  center for their invaluable help!!!😌🙏🏼

Nurse Jackie birthing class – Highly Recommended!

Nurse Jackie gave us a private birthing class and made me, my husband, and our 4 year old son feel comfortable right from the start. Her teaching style is hands-on and informative, and we learned a lot in a relatively short period. She answered all of our questions patiently and made us feel more than capable of going through this process again. Highly recommend!

We are so happy to have taken Nurse Jackie’s birthing class

We are so happy to have taken Nurse Jackie’s birthing class and feel more at ease on what to expect when our newborn arrives. When we first arrived we were nervous, but Nurse Jackie was very welcoming and warm. We were especially grateful that she could accommodate us, as we had signed up the day before. Nurse Jackie’s class was very informative. We learned about how to breath through labor, options for our birth plan, helpful tips for breastfeeding, and how to hold, clean and swaddle our newborn. At the end of the session, we received certificates of completion of the course, useful samples of ointment and gentle detergent, ink pads for baby footprints, and a document to keep track of our newborn’s health to communicate with our pediatrician. On our way out, Nurse Jackie gave us both huge hugs and reminded us that we could contact her at any point with questions, even at 2:00 AM when we’re in labor. We were very grateful for Nurse Jackie’s professionalism, expertise, guidance, and warm kindness! We would highly recommend Nurse Jackie’s birthing class to all expecting moms!
